<description_plain>Threatened by financial troubles brought on by the space's former director, Bo Nilsson, Kunsthal Charlottenborg is back on its wary feet, regaining its integrity one exhibition at a time. But don't let the institute's recent drama overcloud its glorified history.

Originally built in 1883, Kunsthal Charlottenborg was constructed as the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts's art library and exhibition space. No longer institutionally affiliated with the school itself, the independent art space still maintains the art library and is the home of the Academy's senior exhibition.

Named for the city's famed widow, Queen Charlotte Amalie, Kunsthal Charlottenborg hangs nearly five exhibitions per year, most of which are curated in house. In addition to the thesis exhibition and other curated shows, the contemporary art space hosts the annual "Spring Exhibition"—an open-call, juried exhibition.</description_plain>
