Frederiks Bastion - Art - Copenhagen

Once serving as an ammunition depot within Copenhagen’s old fortified naval base of Holmen, Frederiks Bastion now functions as an exhibition space for “Norden i Focus” (Focus on the North), who specialize in showcasing Nordic art. Built in 1744, the building was designed with reinforced walls to prevent widespread damage should the munitions be set alight. It was opened to the public in 1993 after being renovated to its current condition though the building still maintains its original outer brickwork and inner timber lining.

With an emphasis on encouraging and motivating Nordic art, Frederiks Bastion is set in the wonderfully natural and historic environment of Holmen. It hosts a wide range of art, from paintings and sculpture to video installations and live music. There’s also a cafĂ© where you can buy Nordic inspired food and refuel for the trip back into town.Quote_gray

Fagget Fairys - Copenhagen

Fagget Fairys The experimental ghetto-punk dykes

Another great weekend trip and ideal brunch haven is this new and family friendly cafe. The weekend brunch is great and the atmosphere is a little hippie and india inspired. And while you hang out in this neighborhood take a walk down the canal in front of the cafe and enjoy some of the prettiest houseboats in town. Famous people live there ;-)
