Set in a building designed by esteemed Danish architect, Anton Rosen, the Grand Theater is both an essential cinematic and architectural experience. Occupying the rear of the Palace Hotel that opens on to Rådhuspladsen, Town-hall Square, it was built in 1908 and converted from theater to cinema in 1913. Ten years later, director Urban Gad bought and set it on its course in becoming Copenhagen’s leading art-house and independent cinema, eventually winning the Best Programming award at the Europa Cinemas Awards 2006. Showing up 10 films in its six screening rooms, its focus is firmly on European cinema though you will find the picks from Hollywood being shown alongside.
It is a must-know destination for those who value quality cinema presented in a refined environment. To buy tickets and check the program, check their website.
