In the small bohemian area of Christianshavn, Cafe Wilder has proven to be a local favorite, hands down.
Opened in 1984 by the lovely Helle Magnussen and her hippie friends, the cafe was conceived with a simple winning formula: value for money (it’s really not that difficult). Since opening, the cafe has enjoyed great popularity, and even though the owners have changed more than once, the regulars have not—which is part of what makes Cafe Wilder such an endearing place. It’s a perfect mix of politicians, poets, pretty girls and old hippie drunks.
The menu is inspired by French and Italian cuisine. Breakfast is simple, but accompanied by great coffee. Lunch, Cafe Wilder’s specialty, comes in the form of cold salads in all shapes and sizes, served with homemade bread and cold cuts, if you like. The evening menu of hot entrees is available from 18:00 on.
The place gets packed so reservations are a must, especially Wednesday through Saturday.
