In the summer of 2007 the philologist, Elena Ansoteguis, opened her own little café/book lounge in the heart of Nørrebro. Her goal was to create a literary relaxation refuge, specialized mainly in South and Latin American culture, so she filled the café with books and delicacies from Spanish speaking countries. To top it off, she named the place after her favorite book, Rayuela, by the Argentinian writer, Julio Cortazar.
There is no doubt that Ansoteguis’ goal has been successfully realized when you walk down the stairs into the minimalistic, colorful and cozy café. And if the authentic surroundings haven’t convinced you, the limited but luxurious menu of consistently high quality dishes most certainly will. And the staff is probably the friendliest in all of Copenhagen.
As an extra bonus, it should be mentioned that Rayuela is the only place in all of Copenhagen that serves the Argentinian tea, maté, a powerful brew served in special gourd cups with silver straws that delivers caffeine but is much more gentle on the stomach than coffee. Note: maté offers a unique, but bitter taste.
