Situated about 45 minutes outside of Copenhagen is the Louisiana, a treasure trove of art that would make any other Scandinavian museum drool: Jean Arp, Francis Bacon, Alexander Calder, Max Ernst, Sam Francis, Henry Moore, Picasso, Rauschenberg and Warhol, are just some in the long list of names that make up its permanent collection. Not to pale in comparison, the temporary exhibitions keep the crowds coming back, with recent shows featuring such renowned artists as Richard Avedon, Cindy Sherman and Lucien Freud.
But the art is only half the reason to go. The world-class setting boasts views overlooking the sea to the Swedish coast, and these fantastic buildings have been molded into its surrounding, forming a perfect symbiotic relationship with the museum. Take a moment to walk through the sculpture garden and enjoy the view.
