Rust is one of Copenhagen’s oldest and most well established clubs, known for its non-conventional and laid-back reputation. Named after Mathias Rust, the young German pilot who, in 1987, flew through Soviet air defenses and landed on a bridge close to the Red Square in Moscow, Rust has offered an essential clubbing experience since 1989.

Situated beside Nørrebro’s trendy Sankt Hans Torv, Rust reopened after a fire in June 2007 forced it to close its doors. After renovations, Rust now boasts a new third floor, fitted with a low-key bar and smoking room. The main feature of the club, however, is still the middle floor, with its long bar that funnels revelers from the relaxed seating area at one end down to the main dance floor and stage at the other. The action is focused here, where live music is hosted at least every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, typically featuring a wide range of alternative and upcoming acts. Taking the steps down another floor, you’ll find yourself in the cozy DJ room where, depending on the night, you’ll hear anything from electro to hip-hop and soul to keep you moving until the sun comes up.

Admission varies. Expect to shell out for a well known act, though the base prices are 60 DKK on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and a bargain price of 30 DKK on Thursdays.Quote_gray
