This is the story of two gypsy families that grotesquely become intertwined when Matka borrows money from the small time crook Dadan. In return Dadan wants Matkos son to marry his daughter Afrodita, not taking into consideration that neither the boy or girl habor any interest in eachother whatsoever. Everything truly starts to go astray when the son falls in love with someone else completely, setting the scene for a typical Kusturica-film full of temperamental country-hicks, twirled moustaches, horn ensembles and Balkan folklore..
